jane eyre - EPIC!

finished jane eyre. it has now taken the place of pride and prejudice as my favorite novel.

and despite her name, jane ain't plain. she's a 19th century i-play-by-my-own-rules kinda heroine. jane is free-spirited, principled, unyielding.

there are some parallels between jane and all the independent single women out there, including myself. at certain points, i couldn't help but think, "are you being serious?! just get with the guy for crying out loud!!"

but you gotta hand it to jane. she's moral, she's upright, she sticks to her guns. whether that ultimately helps or hinders her is debatable. i think.

it also poses some questions to ponder: is there such a thing as being too principled? and are independent, modern women (particularly those women who have grown up in the church) drowning in a sea of principles and thus unable to see what's right in front of them?

perhaps...
