the iberian pig

i should definitely be sleeping right now.  i should definitely be resting for work tomorrow.  i should definitely be in bed rather than sitting at my desk wide awake and thinking of the food from tonight's dinner.

tonight's dinner pick: the iberian pig in decatur.  low lighting, dark furniture, and a spanish menu + good cocktails.  it is most definitely worth coming back.  the iberian pig is named after a highly prized, black footed pig native to spain.  there are only a few restaurants in the us (including the iberian pig) that have iberian ham as a regular item on their menu.

a sampling of our spread:

flatbread with serrano ham, arugula, caramelized onions, shaved manchego cheese, pistachio, and chilean extra-virgin olive oil.  salty from the ham but sweet from the caramelized onions and rich from the manchego... all atop a thin and crispy crackerchipwafer.

3 cheese plate of manchego, semi-soft goat's milk cheese soaked in red wine, and ca-a de oveja (semi-soft sheep's milk cheese similar to brie) served with olives, macerated strawberries, and an espresso aioli.  ca-a de oveja with the espresso aioli on a piece of crusty bread was excellent.  like the flatbread, it had a nice balance between savory and sweet.

eggplant fries.  fried crunchy goodness on the outside and soft, piping hot eggplant on the inside.  this is a must have for those who like eggplant.  it was so simple yet prepared so well.

chorizo selection with chorizo over a romanesco sauce, lamb sausage with a cherry balsamic reduction, and fennel sausage with caramelized onions and a balsamic reduction.  the flavor combinations on this plate were amazing.

and as always, the company was delightful.  we had a good number of hearty laughs sprinkled with as many random comments.  my dinner mantra: good company goes a long way towards seasoning your food.

cheers!
