not too long ago, a few friends and i hopped in a car and drove (and ate) our way to philly and new york with a couple stops in between. ahhh, roadtrips. they can certainly be a recipe for disaster. think about it: several days, small car, same people non-stop, potential personality clashes. yeah...disaster.
our roadtrip, however, was a success. the four of us are pretty compatible traveling partners. (see my last post re: compatibility). sure, we're different. we have different tastes, different ideas of what to do, different personalities, different preferences. but we're a good balance of being decisive and laid back, listening and talking, silly and serious. and we're all good at conversation. i hate being stuck in a car with a bad conversationalist. you know what i'm talking about. you can't escape, you've tried asking all the questions you can think of, and all the other person can give you is one word answers. kill me. it's complete torture. i know people think my "would you rather" questions are bizarre at times, but they do a good job at prompting engaging conversation. something interesting is bound to come out if i ask, "would you rather eat unseasoned squirrel meat or chocolate cake for the rest of your life?"
in any case, the four of us had an excellent time chatting, eating, driving, eating, siteseeing, eating, eating, and then eating some more. of the 945752 things we had, these two are tied for the top spot:
box hill pizzeria's crabcakes
hands down the best crabcake i've ever had. so much so that to eat a different crabcake would be a guaranteed disappointment.
two little red hens' yellow cake cupcake with fudge frosting
classic combination of moist, buttery yellow cake and rich chocolate frosting. simply amazing. this bakery does such a good job with its frosting. no matter how good your cake is, no one's going to remember it if the frosting is grainy or dry.
i'm ready for some more roadtrips and "would you rather" questions. would you rather have as many crabcakes as you want but no cupcakes or as many cupcakes as you want but no crabcakes?
impossible to answer.
i vote crabcakes!! i'm not a fan of cake.
ReplyDeleteexcellent post BA!!!
ReplyDeletei must agree... there could not have been a better recipe for our trip! It's like the perfect mix!! It's like how sweet and salty go hand in hand.. or hot and sour... well at least the soup is pretty tasty. :)
I vote Cupcakes. I think I might have been the salty on the trip. I would also say the Rueben and the cheesesteak were very good sandwiches.
